Lake Charles, Louisiana New Location for Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship
The top redfish anglers in the country will be competing for more than $105,000 in cash in Lake Charles, Louisiana September 30th through October 2nd. This event will take place at Bord du Lac Park and can be seen nationally televised on ESPN2 October 24 at 1:00 PM EST.
(PRWEB) September 25, 2004 -- The time has finally come.
It is time
for The Cup.
After a postponement of nearly a month the 2004 Oh Boy!
Oberto Redfish Cup Championship will take place in Lake Charles, Louisiana
September 30th through October 2nd.
The best 25 redfishing teams in the
country will be competing in one of the most highly anticipated fishing
tournaments of the year for more than $105,000 in cash.
With four
grueling qualifying events and 200 respectfully defeated professionals behind
them, these 50 anglers can do everything but relax with the sole championship
prize of $50,000 at stake.
"The prize money is definitely an extra
incentive, but we are really wanting to get our names on The Cup," Ken Chambers,
a member of the last team to qualify stated. "Next year nobody will remember how
much money everybody won, but they can never forget you are the champion with
your name on that trophy."
Competition from other teams wasn’t the only
obstacle these redfish anglers had to hurdle to arrive at the Championship. The
second day of the Kemah qualifying event was cancelled due to inclement weather,
and unfortunately the horrific hurricanes that moved through Florida during the
past two months were the cause of the Championship postponement and
relocation.
With 30 of the anglers from Florida, 12 from Texas and only 3
from Louisiana there doesn’t seem to be a critical home-water advantage for
anyone.
However, Lake Charles did host one of the 2003 Oh Boy! Oberto
Redfish Cup tournament stops, so some of the anglers should be somewhat familiar
with the water.
"We are excited to again have these anglers in our area,
and we look forward to giving them the hospitality for which Southwest Louisiana
is known," said Fara Fontenot, Sales Director of the Southwest Louisiana
Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
The Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup
Championship will air October 24 at 1 p.m. EST on ESPN2.
