Communists Praise "Eternal Treblinka"

Marxist publications are praising Charles Patterson's internationally acclaimed book "Eternal Treblinka: Our Treatment of Animals and the Holocaust." A review in Political Affairs, a monthly magazine published by the Communist Party, USA, describes the book as "wonderful" and "great," while more recently People's Weekly World (direct descendent of the Communist Daily Worker) calls it "shattering."

(PRWEB) June 7, 2005 -- Two Communist publications cite Charles Patterson's "Eternal Treblinka: Our Treatment of Animals and the Holocaust" (ISBN: 1-930051-99-9) as a powerful, groundbreaking book.

A review by Norman Markowitz appeared in Political Affairs (March 2005), a Marxist monthly magazine of ideology, politics, and culture, published by the Communist Party, USA:

"Charles Patterson's 'Eternal Treblinka' is a wonderful book about terrible subjects, a work that resonates and extends the best of liberal humanism and broad left activism to the exploitation, oppression and extermination of non-human species."

Markowitz continues, "It is a great book that will both expose readers to a world of valuable information that is not available to them in other sources, and help them, if they choose to act upon what they read, become better human beings in their relationship to both humans and animals."

In an article--"Marxism without meat?"--in the People's Weekly World (June 2, 2005), a direct descendent of the Communist Daily Worker, Gene Gordon states that the foundation of any future communist society must be peace, plenty, love and kindness.

"Certainly there can be no cruelty. And yet I wonder whether a most monstrous cruelty — rampant in this ugly age — will hang on to mar our future. I mean the incarceration, torture and slaughter of billions upon billions of animals."

He continues: "Paul and Linda McCartney wrote, 'If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.' Author Charles Patterson agrees because through those walls, he says, we would gaze horrified into a place that looks much like a Nazi death chamber."

"In his shattering book 'Eternal Treblinka: Our Treatment of Animals and the Holocaust,' Patterson draws an astonishing analogy between a slaughterhouse for Jews and a slaughterhouse for animals. In both we find the annihilation of 'life unworthy of life,' the wholesale depersonalized day-after-day butchery and the lying prattle of 'humane killing.'"

Gordon believes that since a communist society cannot be attained without ethical, compassionate people leading the way, Marxists should become vegetarians.

"Come, let us be soybean socialists. Must we have slaughterhouses under communism? No, let us have a cruelty-free communism--Marxism without meat!"
