Lewisville, TX (PRWEB) March 10, 2005 -- One community in Texas really wants
to make sure no child is left behind. Castle Hills, a community in the
Dallas-Fort Worth area, plans to provide every resident’s child in the community
with a scholarship if they attend college. This year, 38 students are taking
advantage of the program attending schools all over the country. “We are not
aware of any other community anywhere that makes this level of commitment to
education,” said Chris Bright, developer of Castle Hills.
To make sure
the community’s youngsters are ready for college, Castle Hills is also providing
educational grants to local elementary, middle and high schools (both public and
private) that serve the suburban community. To date, the Castle Hills School
Foundation has awarded more than $1.1 million in funding for local schools and
scholarships.
Castle Hills is a 2,500-acre community located in Denton
County, just north of Dallas, which has 1,200 developed lots and currently more
than 900 occupied homes. The Castle Hills Schools Foundation was created to
provide additional support by contributing annually to the schools that serve
Castle Hills’ students. The foundation also provides college scholarships,
regardless of income, to Castle Hills’ college students. Started in 1997, the
foundation is funded by a one-half of one percent fee on the transfer of all
property sold in Castle Hills.
In 2004, the foundation awarded
scholarships totaling $68,000 to students attending colleges throughout the
United States. The foundation awards up to $2,000 a year to students who receive
passing grades. Each student can receive a maximum of $10,000 over a five year
period.
“We have two children in college at the same time so the Castle
Hills Scholarship is a great benefit,” said Renee Mears, mother of Travis and
Ashley. “That means we can receive up to $4000 per school year in reimbursement
and all we have to do to qualify is live in Castle Hills. We are really proud
that Castle Hills places so much emphasis on the importance of
education.”
This year, the foundation will award $300,000 to public and
private elementary, middle and high schools that serve the Castle Hills
community. Schools receiving the grants include four schools in the local
Lewisville Independent School District as well as private schools in Dallas and
Dallas suburbs.
The foundation will contribute approximately $430 for
each student whose family lives in Castle Hills to the public or private school
that student attends. The grants this year went to 11 schools and range from
$125,751 to $858.
The Castle Hills Foundation will be presenting checks
to the schools on Thursday, March 10, 2005, 2:00p.m. at Castle Hills Elementary
School, 1025 Holy Grail Drive, Lewisville, TX 75056.
