(PRWEB) June 2, 2005 -- Dozens of experts - including best-selling authors,
millionaire marketers, highly respected consultants, coaches and business owners
- reveal how they personally use networking to achieve success in a new ebook
titled "Networkaholics Revealed! True Confessions from People Who Networked
Their Way to Success (And How You Can Do the Same)." But while they all agree
networking is essential, they disagree on how it should be done.
"This
actually a good thing," said the ebook's author, Bonnie Lowe. "It's not a
typical 'how-to-network' book that tells you to attend mixers, hand out business
cards and give elevator speeches. If you're an introvert, that type of advice
could actually scare you away from networking!"
According to Lowe and her
49 collaborators, networking is vital to success, but it's not a
one-size-fits-all solution. It’s customizable, adaptable, and totally personal;
something you make uniquely yours, based on your own personality and
preferences.
One of the "Networkaholics" featured in the ebook is Diane
Darling, CEO of Effective Networking, Inc. and best-selling author of "The
Networking Survival Guide.”
"To say Diane knows how to network is like
saying Lance Armstrong knows how to ride a bike," Lowe said. "So I was quite
surprised when she told me she’s somewhat of an introvert."
“I fall into
the ‘introvert’ side of the Myers-Briggs personality test,” Darling said. “Many
people are shocked about that. I get my energy from being quiet, being alone.
But I’m very friendly, and I think people confuse ‘friendly’ and
‘extrovert.’
“Different people have different styles. One size does not
fit all. Some people, like former President Bill Clinton, love to work a crowd;
that energizes them. Other people, like Bill Belichick, Head Coach of the New
England Patriots, are very low key.
“Styles are different. Find your own
style. In the beginning, try a lot of different things. If events aren’t your
thing, find ways to do one-on-one networking. Find something that works for
you,” Darling said.
According to "Networkaholic" Dan Williams, founder of
The Networking Community, “The networking silver bullet is to find a way to
provide people information that is useful and educational, and relevant to what
they want. A great way to build a relationship with them is through an
electronic newsletter. I developed a newsletter to keep people informed about
different networking trends. I can stay in touch with a whole bunch of people,
very cost effectively, and without having to physically be there with
them."
While many of the contributors to this ebook advocate and teach
the 'traditional' model of networking (meeting people and exchanging information
face-to-face), others tell how they do their best networking without leaving
their office.
"If you cringe at the thought of networking, this book will
be incredibly enlightening," Lowe said. "It will change your perceptions, your
beliefs, your distain, your phobias and your misconceptions about what
networking is.
"And if you already love networking, you’ll nod your head
in recognition and agreement when reading many of the tips in this ebook. Every
aspect of networking is covered in a variet of ways," Lowe said, "from setting
goals before going to an event, to organizing your contacts and following up
with everyone you meet. But even if you’ve been networking for years, I
guarantee you will learn something new from the 'Networkaholics' and their
stories."
Bob Burg, best-selling author of "Endless Referrals: Network
Your Everyday Contacts Into Sales," said "Bonnie Lowe has put together a
compendium of the best thoughts and strategies on networking to be found
anywhere.
“While highlighting the major principle involved in successful
and profitable networking--giving--she has tapped into the minds and wisdom of
some of the world’s top pros in this very important area of business and life.
“While anyone desiring to learn the skills of effective networking
should read (and study) this book, I believe those already well-versed in this
area will also find nuggets of gold and a ton of ‘Ah-Has!’ along the
way."
