Vanna Bonta will be a guest on “The Other Side of the Sky," the weekly radio show hosted by Dr. Alan Hale, of Comet Hale-Bopp fame.
Alamogordo, NM (PRWEB) May 29, 2005 -- Vanna Bonta will be a guest on “The
Other Side of the Sky," the weekly radio show hosted by Alan Hale, of Comet
Hale-Bopp fame. The show airs live Saturday afternoon, May 28 from 2:00 to 4:00
(Mountain time) on KUPR-FM (91.7) in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Bonta is a
founding contributor of Earthrise, Dr. Hale’s endeavor to create an astronomical
education center that will give students, which he defines as anyone of any age
interested in learning about the universe, an opportunity to participate in
astronomy-related activities, up to and including ongoing research.
The
Earthrise development site is immediately adjacent to the historic spot from
which the great Comet Hale-Bopp was discovered. The site will hold several
telescopes, which can be utilized either on-site or in a remote-control
capacity. The ultimate Earthrise goal is to create a global network of partner
facilities, encouraging participants to form international
collaborations.
Through exploration and observation of Space and a cosmos
of which Earth is a small part, Dr. Hale’s vision is that Earthrise students’
perception will supersede international and intercultural barriers to realize a
common humanity, united toward benefits and wonders awaiting
discovery.
July 23 will mark the 10-year anniversary of the discovery of
Comet Hale-Bopp by director of Southwest Institute for Space Research Alan Hale,
and Thomas Bopp of Arizona on July 23, 1995. A special celebration will be held
at the Tay Special Events Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico in partnership with
the New Mexico Museum of Space History.
The event will feature speakers
from a variety of astronomy and space-related fields, including astronauts,
astronomers, celebrated artists, and some of Hale’s international colleagues
from Iran and elsewhere who will illustrate the international nature of
Earthrise.
Alan Hale has been hosting his weekly radio program since May
of 2004. The show "The Other Side of the Sky" is named after the collection of
short stories by Arthur C. Clarke. Each week covers the spectrum of musical
genres, and artist and music submissions are encouraged. A special weekly
feature, "Songs From the Earth," features music from nations and cultures all
over the planet. The show is also a forum for thought-provoking discussion of
various current topics, events, featuring special guests for
interviews.
Hale’s program was one of the first stations to air Vanna
Bonta’s “What Goes Up” for lucky listeners. Bonta’s DVD, described as a “musical
trance fusion” of humankind’s dream to fly, was inspired when she witnessed
SpaceShipOne, the first privately funded space flight.
