National Youth Litter Cleanup

The Nicodemus Wilderness Project (http://www.wildernessproject.org) provides incentive (certificate and web publication) to engage youth in litter cleanup activities of wilderness and other natural areas.

(PRWEB) May 8, 2005 -- Here's how to become an Apprentice Ecologist™ (http://www.wildernessproject.org/volunteer_apprentice_ecologist.shtml) and get a Personalized Certificate of Achievement!

The concept of the Nicodemus Wilderness Project (http://www.wildernessproject.org) is to provide incentive for our youth to explore and expand their horizons through volunteerism. The goal of this campaign is to engage 1,000 kids and young adults (K-12) in environmental and wilderness cleanup activities by the end of 2006.

Follow these steps to become an Apprentice Ecologist™ and get an official certificate of achievement, suitable for framing, from the Nicodemus Wilderness Project printed with your name or group name* and signed by a Ph.D. (doctor) in Ecology:

1. Plan a trip (with help from your family, friends, and/or teachers) to a mountain, river, shoreline, beach, park, or wilderness area that you want to explore.
2. Pick up litter while you are out on your trip and take a few digital photos** of what you picked up (include the setting).
3. Send us an email that includes a short story about your trip, your best digital photo, and your name and mailing address. See http://www.wildernessproject.org/members_contact.shtml for our contact information.

After completing steps 1-3 we will publish your story and photo on our website, enter you in our Registry of Apprentice Ecologists™, and award you with a personalized certificate of achievement that is suitable for framing. An organic cotton t-shirt with our logo and the words Apprentice Ecologist™ will be awarded to the authors of the 10 best stories of 2005 and 2006.

*Groups are highly encouraged to participate! Each participant will be awarded a certificate and one certificate will also be awarded to the group. **If you do not have or cannot borrow a digital camera, we will waive the requirement for a photo.
