“Draw” Your Children away from Video Games
Drawing Software that teaches children how to draw on the computer. The software features two cartoon characters (Sketch and Smudge) who draw pictures, step by step, so that the user can follow along.
Fremont, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2005 -- Drawing Hand Creations is pleased to
announce the release of Sketch Studio for Microsoft Windows. Sketch Studio is an
easy to use drawing program designed to teach children how to draw. Although
there are already a number of drawing programs available for children Sketch
Studio is unique in that it contains built-in drawing lessons. The lessons
feature two animated characters “Sketch and Smudge”. The characters work
together, sketching and smudging, to draw pictures. Each picture is broken down
into a series of steps. At the end of each step the two characters wait,
allowing the user to copy what was drawn, before proceeding to the next step.
The lessons vary in difficulty. The simplest lesson consists of coloring in the
outline of a tree frog. This lesson, although simple, demonstrates how to use
the smudging technique that is required in the more advanced drawings. The goal
is to slowly build up the child’s drawing ability and
confidence.
Encourage Children To Draw
Most children have a natural
instinct to draw. They pick up a pencil or crayon and just start drawing without
thinking about it. Some children continue to draw as they mature while others
stop for one reason or another. The children who continue to draw typically
received praise from their parents. The praise encourages them to continue to
draw which leads to better drawings and more encouragement. Once this cycle of
encouragement begins it can lead to a lifetime of creativity and artistic
exploration. Sketch Studio was designed to start the encouragement cycle. Every
drawing created with Sketch Studio is recorded and can be replayed within Sketch
Studio. When a child has completed a drawing he/she can press the Play button
and Sketch and Smudge will recreate the drawing stroke for stroke. The drawings
can also be replayed with the Sketch and Smudge Screen Saver (included with
Sketch Studio). What child would not be proud to see his or her drawing as it is
recreated by Sketch and Smudge on the family computer?
Alternative to
Video Games
The creator of Sketch Studio, Jeff Newman, decided to create a
drawing program for children in hopes that it would be an alternative to the
incredible number of video games available. Jeff, a software engineer,
appreciates how sophisticated and creative the games have become. However, as
Jeff sees it, all of the creativity is in developing the game. That’s the real
fun. Not playing it. There is a big difference between those who play and those
who create. More than likely, the talented people who write the software and
create the graphics for the video games today would probably have enjoyed Sketch
Studio when they were young.
