Golf Tournament participents get opportunity to enrich themselves and charity with hole-in-one shot. Annual golf tournament raises money to provide books, scholarhips, and media center for southeast Durham, NC, elementary school. Students are on accelerated academic program, excel at or above grade level.
Durham, NC (PRWEB) August 3, 2005 -- When golfers tee off for the Quality
Education Institute Golf Tournament, they will get a shot at a $10,000 hole in
one. On Friday, August 26, golfers from throughout the southeastern United
States will gather at the Occoneechee Golf Club in Hillsborough to participate
in QEI’s fifth annual tournament, where they will test their skill for the
$10,000 prize.
Tournament Planning Committee Co-Chair Michael D. Davis
said, “This is the first time we’ve offered this prize in our tournament. Both
the golfers and students can benefit from this opportunity.” Davis said he hopes
that offering this prize will be incentive for new golfers to participate in the
event. “The tournament has been getting bigger and better every year,” he
said.
In addition to the hole-in-one opportunity, golfers will be able
take part in Mulligans and tee-busters as well as contests for being closest to
the pin, having the longest drive, having the straightest drive and being the
best putter. Tournament participants will pay a $75 registration fee, which
entitles them to green fees, a cart, dinner, and a gift bag. Registration begins
at 10 a.m. and tee time is at 1 p.m. August 26.
Proceeds from this golf
tournament will go toward expanding services offered to QEI’s students,
including textbooks, supplies, and after-school care, in addition to funding a
media center and scholarships based on financial need, said Davis.
QEI is
a Durham elementary school with classes for 4-year-olds through fifth graders
and offers an advanced and challenging curriculum. Begun in July 1998, QEI has
grown from three students to nearly 90 students. All QEI students score at or
above grade level and are encouraged to learn at their own pace, based on their
individualized education plans. QEI’s philosophy includes a three-pronged
approach to education, where the student, parent, and teacher cultivate student
success. In addition to the demanding educational program, QEI emphasizes
character building in its staff and students.
