Sephardic Educational Center Accepting Applications to Study in Israel
The Sephardic Educational Center is now accepting applications for its Makor Program, an opportunity for university students to spend a semester or a year in Israel studying abroad.

(SEC) is now accepting applications for its Makor Program, an opportunity for
university students to spend a semester or a year in Israel studying
abroad.
The Makor Program was established three years ago by the
Sephardic Educational Center in Jerusalem in cooperation with the Rothberg
International School of The Hebrew University. The program for the 2005/2006
academic year is fully accredited through Hebrew University, and is a perfect
way for students from the United States and other countries to have an
opportunity to study in Jerusalem and earn college credit.
The program
aims to strengthen the Jewish commitment and identity of students through
various classes in Jewish learning. Its purpose is to train leaders, educators
and activists for youth groups, campuses and Jewish communities. Some of the
courses available include Jewish studies, Sephardic history and culture,
Arab-Israeli conflict and the media, Jewish leadership: history and techniques,
Jerusalem: with a focus on the Old City, the Holocaust in Sephardic communities,
archaeology of Jerusalem, introduction to the music of the Jews, and many
others.
This program is open to students between the ages of 18 and 28
who are in good academic standing. The program includes tuition for the SEC
Makor classes and activities as well as The Hebrew University Rothberg
international School. Included are all classes and activities, dorms, most
meals, extensive travel throughout Israel and health service. Individual
subsidies in the form of scholarships are available for qualified candidates.
