Has Wall Street Created a Conspiracy

Steve Patterson's "Street-Smarts for Success" educational system is aimed at discovering why basic economic and finance skills are not taught at our high schools across the nation - and how he plans to fill that void via "teaching the main things you need to know in the real world". Steve Patterson, MBA, discusses “Has Wall Street Created a Conspiracy?”

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) January 18, 2005 -- Are the children of America paying for it? We’ve all heard or said the following:

- “Man I wish I knew then what I know Now!”
- “Why didn’t they teach us these things in high school?”
- “I don’t have a clue what the “time value of money” is!”
- “Stocks, bonds, securities? I don’t have a clue”
- “I wish I knew more about the main things in dealing with everyday life”
- “No I can’t really define what “compound interest” is!”
- “I don’t even know what the word “mortgage” is, let alone all the jargon attached to it!”

In a recent survey, the average score for high school students taking a basic economics and finance quiz was only 50% - thats right – only 50% - and the scores have gone down over the years, not up.

In another recent survey, some of the most elite students in a large east coast town were selected for an economics forum – during that forum they were asked what “compound interest” is and only one of fifty students could explain it! Is this done on purpose? Is there a strategy to keep our kids “in the dark” as they enter the ‘real world” of capitalism? Is the high school educational system not teaching economics and finance in order for large financial companies to take advantage of the unknowing student as he enters the “real world”

Steve Patterson, MBA and Professional Speaker, says there is even if it’s not “intentional. “The fact that most high schools in America don’t focus on economics and finance i.e. “money issues” should be a real eye-opener for most people. We all know we use these skills every day – so why are they not taught to our children?

Sample interview questions:
1) Why do you feel children are getting a “raw deal” in high schools across the nation?
2) What is your vision for your company “Street-Smarts for Success”
3) How do you feel it can make a difference?
4) Do you see pressure from any particular firms or agencies ahead?
5) Surely the high school system will be defensive once they feel they been “attacked” by you
6) How can you expect to drive change or make a difference?
7) What is your strategy to make a difference?
8) Give me an example of your “Main Things” teaching and explanation style
