CAMBRIDGE, MA (PRWEB) August 22, 2004 -- ConnectU.com is a free online
community that connects people through networks of friends and common interests
at over one-hundred different colleges and universities. ConnectU can be used
for friendship, class work, dating, and developing professional
relationships.
While other networking sites are limited to each member's
own college or university, ConnectU connects all students and alumni nationwide,
resulting in better dating and networking opportunities.
ConnectU offers
unique features such as a book exchange, an automatically self-updating address
book, and a chat function which allows students to talk instantly with
classmates at their school and at other schools across the nation. The site also
boasts blogs (web logs or diaries), user testimonials, and the ability to create
networks of friends. Members can include up to eight pictures for display on
their profile.
The Web site was founded by Harvard alumni Divya
Narendra, Cameron Winklevoss, and Tyler Winklevoss, in an effort to increase the
intra and inter-campus social opportunities for Harvard students and other
students across the U.S. “The idea of ConnectU was spawned in the winter of 2002
after it became obvious that the social and dating scene in Cambridge needed
some work,” says Cameron Winklevoss. “We wanted to improve the social scene by
creating an online, university-wide friends and dating network.”
“The
site combines the fun nature of friendship and dating sites, along with the
utility of a professional networking site. We aim to create niche communities at
the university level, instead of catering to a much larger and generic audience
with limited quality control,” says Narendra. “ConnectU brings together the best
of both worlds.”
