The Oxford Princeton Programme Develops a Unique Refining, Trading and Supply Course: Bringing together the principles of refinery economics and international oil trading, this course is the first of its kind to be offered by any training organization

PRINCETON, NJ (PRWEB) June 10, 2004 -- The Oxford Princeton Programme, the world’s leading provider of training solutions to the energy, commodity and derivatives industries, announces its newest course The Synergies of Refining, Trading and Supply. Debuting in Singapore, the course covers refinery economics, linear program (LP) modeling, latest refinery technologies and future challenges, but is complimented with international trading techniques and how these techniques can be applied to the refinery operations. Demonstrating how advanced oil trading techniques are applied to maintain economic incentives, the course explores capital investment and project valuation.

“Refinery economists and planners generally use LP models to optimize the crude oil slate, refinery operations and products. In preparing an LP model, assumptions are made regarding both current and future crude oil and product prices, however prices change, and an earlier optimal solution may no longer be the most favorable,” explains Ian Holdaway, international consultant and partner/technical director of Cambrian Marine Processing. “The Synergies of Refining, Trading and Supply illustrates how advanced oil trading practices can be applied to "lock" and maintain the economic incentive of the refinery LP solution, both short and long term – a concept never before provided in a training course."

Co-presenters, Ian Holdaway and Neil Richardson are active consultants in the energy industry.

Dr. Ian Holdaway is an international consultant in the downstream oil industry and Partner / Technical Director of Cambrian Marine Reprocessing, a company specializing in the on-site reprocessing of contaminated petroleum and petrochemical cargoes. After graduating with a PhD in industrial chemistry, Dr. Holdaway joined Esso working in research, marketing and corporate planning before transferring to refining, where he was responsible for refinery operations planning. He soon joined supply logistics where he was managed imports and exports to Esso's two UK refineries and the transportation of refined product to Esso's mainland marketing terminals. In this role, Dr. Holdaway also oversaw product tanker chartering, including outchartering of Esso's five GP product tankers. After 11 years he joined J Aron, the commodity trading division of Goldman Sachs, where, as trading operations director, he directed all aspects of J Aron's international trading operations within the European and Far Eastern offices.

Neil Richardson is an associate consultant to Nexant, the Bechtel-affiliated global energy consulting and technology firm. Based in Brussels, he currently partakes in oil and gas projects and in handling relations with EU institutions. Prior to working with Bechtel/Nexant, he spent 24 years with BP in operational and strategic planning, followed by three years at the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission working on EU oil and gas strategy and assistance programmes to former Soviet bloc countries. He recently managed a major study for the Commission on the costs to EU refiners of tighter oil product specifications.

The Synergies of Refining, Trading and Supply is five-day intensive course. The first scheduled date will be August 16-19, 2004 in Singapore and November 29-December 3, 2004 in London, UK.
