32nd Edition of the America’s Cup Set to Change the City of Valencia Forever
The economic repercussions of the 32nd edition of the America’s Cup, to be held in the city of Valencia, Spain, will be felt for decades, with the infrastructure planned by the city set to change the face of local tourism and boost many of the business sectors that make up the Valencia region’s economy.
(PRWEB) June 20, 2005 -- The 32nd edition of the America’s Cup will bring
about a historic change in the region of Valencia, Spain, with the local economy
to undergo a dramatic change as a result of the investment that is to go into
adapting the host port and the city of Valencia.
As Lyn Hines, representative of
the prestigious nautical guide Yachting Pages, says, “The people of Valencia are
not yet aware of the enormous change that the 32nd edition of the America's Cup
will bring to the area’s economy. The infrastructure designed for the event will
help put Valencia on the world super-yacht circuit and permit the city to host
major nautical exhibitions, conventions and trade fairs. This will have a long
term impact on the creation of employment and wealth, which is difficult to
assess as yet”.
Although the final regattas are not to take place until
2007, the city is already brimming with people from all over the world as twelve
teams from ten different countries prepare for the competition. America’s Cup
Management, the event organizer, and the teams taking part in the event are
already hiring the services of many local businesses. High on the list of the
services required by the teams is translation and interpreting. "We estimate
that the staging of acts associated with the event will lead to an increase of
almost 15% in our turnover for translation and interpreting services from the
local market", says Francisco Chirivella, a partner in Valencia-based
translation company Dixon Servicios Lingüísticos,
S.L.
The members of the teams taking part in the 32nd edition of the
America’s Cup and their families make up a multi-national group of thousands of
people, who will be resident in Valencia until 2007. In order to make their
integration into working life and their relationship with the locals as smooth
as possible, many have decided to learn Spanish during their stay in Valencia.
“In addition to our usual services, which offer language courses for companies
in various different economic sectors, we have designed a range of Spanish
courses aimed at the team members and their families. We not only teach them the
language, but we also provide advice about Spanish customs and, more
specifically, about Valencia and the surrounding area”, says Anne-Lise Grisard,
head of language-training company Dixon Formación.
Dixon Servicios Lingüísticos, SL, is a Valencia-based
translation, interpretation and language training company offering services in
more than 100 languages. Since 2002, the company has provided services to an
extensive portfolio of local, national and international clients, including:
America's Cup Manangement, Valencia Regional Government, Valencia Justice
Department, ONCE (Spanish National Organisation for the Blind), Valencia
