Long a local hero to the East
Bay, retired St. Louis baseball star McGee grew up in Richmond, and as he became
an accomplished and distinguished athlete remained a dedicated supporter of the
community that raised him. With a few of his childhood friends he formally
established the Willie McGee Foundation in 2004.
His foundation’s mission
is to create an environment that inspires an increasing number of youth to
complete their high school education, pursue continuing education, and become
active members of their community. Through its athletic, educational, advocacy
and cultural programming, the foundation seeks to help East Bay children and
youth develop a sense of self-esteem and purpose.
