Ten Thousand Visual Basic Users Find an Alternative
In the first two weeks of REAL Software's promotion offering REALbasic for free to Visual Basic users, over 10,000 Visual Basic users have downloaded REALbasic for free. The offer has been extended through April 15, 2005. Interested VB users can get REALbasic for free by visiting http://www.realsoftware.com/vb6.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 5, 2005 -- REAL Software announced today that over
10,000 Visual Basic developers have downloaded a free copy of REALbasic in their
search for a replacement to Visual Basic. Microsoft ended support for Visual
Basic on March 31, 2005 so the millions of developers using Visual Basic are now
looking for a new development tool.
More than 4,700 Visual Basic users
petitioned Microsoft to continue development and support of Visual Basic.
Microsoft officials responded that their plans to end Visual Basic 6 support
remain firm.
In an effort to provide Visual Basic users with a similar
development tool that will be updated and supported long into the future, REAL
Software began offering free REALbasic licenses to Visual Basic users. Licenses
are available at http://www.realbasic.com/vb6.
"We welcome Visual Basic
developers to the REALbasic community and encourage them to give us their
feedback," stated Geoff Perlman, president and CEO. "We are committed to
providing them excellent products and service and a home for many, many years to
come."
REAL Software is extending the offer to Visual Basic developers
through April 15, 2005. The offer is for REALbasic 5.5.5, which includes an
update to the VB Project Converter that helps Visual Basic developers port their
applications to REALbasic. Once Visual Basic projects are converted to
REALbasic, they can be cross-compiled to run on Linux and Macintosh. This
enables Visual Basic users to leverage their existing skills to develop software
for Windows, Mac, even Linux.
"My income depends on me being productive:
I simply can't make my customers wait a few months extra while I figure out how
to write apps in VB.NET," offers Donn Edwards, long-time Visual Basic user and
principal of Black and White Software. "REALbasic, on the other hand, gives me a
fresh start. The language is similar enough to VB to avoid a huge unprofitable
learning curve. I can develop apps for whatever OS my customers require,
something I've never been able to do before!"
