Five Maine Reasons to Raft this September
Five reasons to go whitewater rafting on Maine's wilderness rivers in September and October.
(PRWEB) August 25, 2005 -- River rafting in Maine begins May First and
continues daily through early October. Thanks to hydropower dams’ daily water
releases, Maine is the only state in the Northeast that can provide water levels
for whitewater rafting and kayaking over the a five month season.
A survey of outfitters and guests revealed the five
reasons to take a raft trip in September or early October:
1) Reduced
rates-On average the price of a raft trip is discounted 15-30%.
2) Warm
Water-Temperatures are in the 60’s after a hot summer.
3) Less
Crowded-The tourists have gone back to work and kids back to school.
4)
Flora and Fauna-Wildlife is abundant and fall foliage colors are spectacular.
5) Special Dam Releases-Up to 8,000 cubic feet per second on September
10 and 24 on the Kennebec River and up to 6,000 cfs on the Dead River on
September 4, 17 and October 1, 2005.
Outfitters offer upper
and lower river trips, float trips, canoeing, whitewater and lake kayaking,
inflatable kayak trips, rock climbing, ropes courses, fishing, guided hiking and
moose and wildlife watching safaris.
Raft Maine, an association of eleven
professional outfitters, maintains a one-call reservation telephone at
800-723-8633. Information on outfitters, the rivers, weather and trip planning
