Vacation Travel Destination Harbour Village Beach Club Has Prime Location on Bonaire, Island Voted Top Caribbean Dive Destination by Readers of Scuba Diving Magazine
Vacation Resort Harbour Village Can Now Claim Bragging Rights for Being the Premiere Vacation Resort on the #1 Caribbean Diving Destination in the World Three Years Running.
Miami, FL (PRWEB) April 12, 2005 -- Scuba Diving Magazine Readers named
travel destination Bonaire as 2005’s Top Caribbean Dive
Destination, making it a 3 time winner after receiving the same honor in
both 2003 and 2004.
The Reader’s Choice Awards were announced in the
magazine’s January/February issue with Bonaire also taking home
top honors for Top Marine
Life, Top Shore Diving, Top Snorkeling, Top Destination for Underwater
Photography, and Top Beginner Diving.
Editor of Scuba Diving, Buck
Butler says that for this issue of the magazine, the readers acted as the
reporters, going out and making observations first-hand and then sharing their
accounts with other diving enthusiasts.
Readers, ranging in the
thousands as both subscribers and non-subscribers, rated their experiences at
various diving
destinations from one to five, giving other divers an idea of what to expect
when visiting a particular dive destination.
It is probably no surprise
that Bonaire, located just 50 miles north of Venezuela and about 85
miles east of Aruba rates so highly with visitors. The island is ideally
situated surrounded by prime diving spots, a warm average temperature of 82
degrees, and average water temperature of 81 degrees.
Bonaire, since
1971, has taken a strong stand to protect its off-shore underwater world by
designating its surrounding waters as a marine park. It introduced a ban on
spear fishing and on the touching or collecting of corals, and has steadily
added reef-protective mooring buoys, which eliminate the risk of boats throwing
damaging anchors onto the fragile reefs.
Harbour Village, which
serves as the prime vacation resort on the
island has done its best to ensure that diving enthusiasts and vacationers to
Bonaire have a chance to take advantage of its premiere diving opportunities and
luxurious accommodations by creating packages like the Dive Into Luxury Package,
which offers divers: airport transfers to/from Harbour Village, a 7-night stay
in a one or two bedroom suite, daily full American breakfast, unlimited use of
the fitness center, tennis courts, kayaks and sailboats, And most importantly
6-days of diving (unlimited shore diving and 1 tank boat dive per day) with
tanks, weights and belts. For arrivals during the months of May, June and
September 2005 the second diver dives free.
In addition to catering to
the upscale diver, the resort also features luxurious beachfront villas and
suites, a top-notch restaurant with a breathtaking seaside location, full
service marina and a host of activities including tennis, kayaking, sailing,
deep sea fishing, spa and salon services, fitness center & classes including
yoga on the beach, and daily trips to an offshore island.
But their main
attraction, diving, is offered by Great
Adventures Bonaire, an on-site International Gold Palm Five Star resort and
water sports center offering personalized dive services, instruction and dive
equipment.
Their two custom dive boats leave three times daily with
certification courses offered from beginner to advanced through which guests can
earn their “C” cards and become divers while vacationing at the resort. SASY, or
Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth, is also offered for kids ages 5 and up
looking to follow in their parents footsteps.
Harbour Village now has
even more to offer divers with the sinking of one of Bonaire’s historic vessels,
the Our Confidence, just 150 ft. west of the resort. The 60-foot boat has a long
history with the island, first as a Danish fishing boat, then as a transport for
WWII refugees, then as a Caribbean inter-island freighter, and finally as the
first vessel to bring aid to the victims of the hurricane that devastated St.
Maarten. However unfortunate it is that this piece of history has found its
final resting place fifty-five feet at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea, it will
no doubt still be useful as a playground for the many divers who visit and love
the island of Bonaire.
