Florida Family Getaway - Kids and Teens Sail Free

A fun, family learning vacastion on the water and under sail!

Fort Myers, FL (PRWEB) June 17, 2005 -- Offshore Sailing School’s great Florida summer getaway is for families looking for a learning vacation that is both fun and long lasting. From June 19 through September 30, each parent taking a course at published tuition rates can bring one child or teen (11-17) to learn with them absolutely free.

“Essentially, this is a two-for-one deal,” explains Doris Colgate, CEO and President of Offshore Sailing School, which opened its doors in 1964 and has been teaching adults and children to sail ever since. “Sailing is an activity that brings families together. When we see youngsters and teens get excited about sailing, we know we’ve established a meaningful family connection to a lifetime outdoor activity,” Colgate says.

June 19th is Father’s Day, just two days before the official start of summer. Colgate suggests there’s no better gift for Dad than being at the helm of a sleek sailboat while sharing a special learning experience on the water with his family.

The “Kids and Teens Sail Free” offer is available at Offshore’s three Florida destinations, for Learn to Sail course and cruising courses. Offshore’s most popular program is “Fast Track to Cruising®” which starts with the three-day Learn to Sail course on the school’s signature Colgate 26 sailboats, and segues immediately into a cruising course on 36-46 foot Hunter yachts. During the Learn to Sail course, everyone stays ashore. A Bareboat Cruising Preparation course lasts five days, during which participants also stay ashore. The Live Aboard Cruising course is six days long and the whole family lives and learns aboard a spacious three or four-cabin Hunter 46. The Learn to Sail course (Basic Keelboat Certification) is a pre-requisite for both cruising courses.

For families who just want to learn to sail, a five-day Learn to Sail course allows for play time between classroom and sailing sessions, a relaxed way to gain a new skill while enjoying all the activities of a destination resort.

Offshore instructors are all US SAILING certified. Family members who wish to be certified can gain US SAILING certification at the Basic Keelboat level during the Learn to Sail course, and at the Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising levels during the cruising courses.

Offshore’s Florida bases are family-friendly and several do not charge for kids under 16 sharing a room with parents. The Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa on Ft. Myers Beach has beautiful suites overlooking the Gulf, each with a sunset lanai and kitchenette. All the beach toys one can think of are available, two beautiful pools border the beach, kids activities are scheduled, and the town has a multitude of fun shops and eateries.

Hawk’s Cay Resort on Duck Key, midway between Key Largo and Key West, is known for its interactive dolphin program and has a lovely beach, several pools, tennis, a kid’s center and luxurious spa. Its comfortable bungalows and villas are perfect for families – with two or three bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and two baths.

The homey Mansion House B&B in the heart of St. Petersburg serves a full breakfast daily and is just a short ride from white sandy beaches. Disney World, Bush Gardens and other Florida attractions are close by for a special sailing/entertainment escape.

Packages which include tuition, accommodations and applicable taxes are available for all three locations. There is no tuition charge for eleven to 17 year olds accompanying an adult (one per adult) during this special “Kids and Teens Sail Free” offer.
