Surf Shop Icon Changes Location & Ownership in South Florida
For the first time in 32 years there's no surf shop tucked into the small plaza on the causeway in Lantana, Florida. New owners have picked up the tiny shop and moved it to the beach giving it a new name and persona.
(PRWEB) July 28, 2005 -- For the first time in 32 years there's no surf shop
tucked into the small plaza on the causeway in Lantana, Florida. Tommy's Surf
& Slalom Shop has been there for 9 years and before that there's been a surf
shop on Ocean Ave. in Lantana, Florida for over 20 years. "Gillian, one of our
employees literally grew up at Tommy's, becoming an employee as a teenager",
said Mike Baer, one of the the new owners. "We were attracted to the shop by its
reputation as a welcoming, long standing surf and ski
destination."
Tommy's is now called Coastal Surf & Ski and has moved
across the bridge to the Plaza Del Mar, across the street from the beach. The
new owners, The Baer Family consisting of Mike, Michele and their two sons
Morgan and Gerritt and their wives Marla and Molly and grandchild Nikki are a
long time surfing, water ski and water sport family. "We (Mike and Michele Baer)
came to South Florida 35 years ago to attend college and never left, we love the
water and the lifestyle," says Michele Baer. "Owning a Surf and Ski Shop is a
dream come true for our whole family."
The new store Coastal Surf &
Ski has expanded to an 1800 Sq. Ft. space with soaring 20 ft. high ceilings,
wood floor, and all new fixtures. "We've made room for more surfboards, wake
boards and water skis and we've added a Plasma screen TV where we'll play video
of not only the pro's but our locals athletes in local water," says Baer. "We
want everyone to know we're all about a passion for the lifestyle, the water, at
any level at any age."

Radio, Billabong and Quicksilver, August 13-14th and will give away surfboards,
clothing and other store items.
