Summary: Impatiently Waiting for a Sequel!!!
Comment: I had my doubts about this book. I am a huge fan of the Twilight series! I decided to give it and try and was thoroughly impressed. I love how she developed the relationship between Melanie and Wanda. And the conflicting relationship with Ian and Jared.

Upon finishing this book, I truly hope that she continues this story!

Summary: Interesting idea. Terrible execution
Comment: Ms. Meyer has an interesting concept here, one that could have allowed her to examine the very nature of being human, of love, and of the relationship between mind and body (as Kazuo Ishiguro did so brilliantly in "Never let me go."). Unfortunately, she does not possess the writing ability to pull that off. Her narrative is sprawled and often meanders for pages on end for no apparent reason. The novel (at 600 pages) could have been 300 pages shorter. Worst of all, is Ms. Meyer's limited vocabulary and expression. Reading the book, I kept thinking of a drinking game where one would have to drink every time a character "hissed," "shuddered," "trembled," or somebody's stomach "growled." I think that you'd get drunk by page 5. The plot never quite arcs and the conclusion is too sweet for its own good. This could have been an amazing novel. In the end, it was simply a mediocre attempt at writing.

Summary: BREATHTAKING.....
Comment: I am NOT AT ALL a "Sci-Fi" fan----but this wonderful book is so much more than a mere "Sci-Fi" tag can sum up.....beautifully written, exceptional characterization--not to mention, romance;suspence; and an "edge-of-your-seat" narration, that at times, left me absolutely breathless.....I LOVED the character "Wanderer," --not to mention all of the other colorful characters in this incredible story...What a talent Stephanie Meyer is---I can not rate this book highly enough!!!

Summary: It's no Twilight
Comment: This book was a real disappointment. It would have been a lot better if about 200 pages were cut out. I agree with some other reviewers in that I would have put the book down after about 100 pages if it were not for the author herself. The book was ok, just really, really slow. I'm glad I got it from the library instead of paying full price for the book. If there is a sequel, I doubt I'll read it. The book is slow, some of the characters are so like Twilight characters you'd have to be blind not to notice the similarities. But unlike the Twilight characters, I found it hard to identify with these people. No one really won my favor. And the name Wanda!? That was hard to read with a straight face. (no offense to anyone named Wanda) This book was in the YA section of my library, and I plan on telling them it is an adult book. I don't think YA have the patience to slug through this. "Science fiction for people who don't like science fiction"--wasn't Twilight "Vampires for people who don't like vampires"? Sorry Stephenie, I'm a huge TW fan, but you need to get some new catch phrases.

Summary: Slower Starter that gets to good to put down.
Comment: This took a few pages to really get into it. Once she caught me I could not put it down until it was over. I still wanted more. If you are a fan of Stephanie Meyer you will not be disappointed.

Editorial Reviews:

The author of the Twilight series of # 1 bestsellers delivers her brilliant first novel for adults: a gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake.

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.
