Customer Rating: Summary: Corporate Finance and Managerial Wisdom Comment: CFO Magazine is a professional magazine that offers some good reading on trends, technology, challenges, and success of those who help run corporations in a financial role. This magazine is geared mainly toward Chief Financial Officers and others who help to make the critical corporate financial decisions each day.
This publication offers a good mixture of articles that cover a wide range of financial topics. The monthly departments and the four featured articles can cover anything from insurance costs to hiring the right people for your organization. The diverse articles are one of this magazine's strengths, for it is easy for a reader to find something of interest in every issue.
Some of the articles in each issue of CFO Magazine include direct words of wisdom from actual CFO's around the nation and the world. These articles can be in the form of interviews or general business biographies. What I like about these CFO articles is that they do not necessarily concentrate on CFO's from well- known companies. In fact, most of the CFO's who speak up in this magazine are from lesser- known companies and while some might view this as a weakness, I consider it a strength. The reason I feel this way is because the big- time CFO's often give advice on a level that isn't compatible with the needs of financial professionals at a smaller level. The CFO's that speak up in this magazine know what its like to run a company in the middle to small size range and since most readers are involved with companies at a similar level, the advice these people give is easier to relate to.
With about one hundred pages in each issue, CFO Magazine is just the right length for a magazine of this type. It offers a good deal of time and space to its articles and most of the subjects covered are given adequate explanations and are easy to read and understand. The focus of this magazine is supposedly for CFO personnel, but the fact of the matter is that most any middle or senior manager can learn from the material within this magazine. The reason is because finance affects everyone in a business and everyone should learn all he/she can about the importance of strong financial governance to the running of a successful company.
Overall, CFO is a solid magazine that offers good advice for financial professionals. I have worked as a financial manager for many years and I enjoy soaking up the advice in this publication. But even if you're a COO, CEO, or even a middle manager, I would still recommend reading this magazine. It has something to offer most anyone, with good writing and sensible approaches to the many problems faced by corporate management every day.
