Customer Rating: Summary: For oldies acts, these guys are still very vibrant! Comment: OK, first off, I would never have purchasd thid DVD were it not for my wife. She'd seen some of it on one of the cable channels and raved how good it was. I got it for her on a whim.
As it turns out, this two-CD concert is great! It opens with Chcago and Towner of Power, two horn-driven bands, playing several songs together. Then they toss a coin to see who goes first and Tower of Power gets the win. I've never been a big fan of theirs, but Mr. Bailey and Co. kept my attention.
The second CD opens with Chicago's performance, and closes with both groups jamming together for several tunes. With Pete Cetera long gone, I was prepared for a watered-down "oldies" band. The few young guys add some energy, but, surprisingly, the original members of the band are in fine shape and kicked butt. Fortunately, much of the concert was geared toward Chicago's early hits. (I stopped following the band after Chicago VII, and I own every CD from Chicago Transit Authority through Chicago VII...nothing since has really caught my interest.) On the performances of the early tunes, the band was spot on. Considering these guys have been together now some 40 years, and the original members are in their sixties, they performed with a cohesive energy that took me back to my youth! They were solid!
The idea of having two artists join together, opening and closing the show in unison, was a good one. My wife watched DVD 1. I watch DVD 2. We're both more than happy with this DVD. We got our money's worth!
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing group of musicians Comment: I was very impressed with the quality of the bands, as well as the overall quality of the Blu-ray disc.
Customer Rating: Summary: yeahh....this is one of the good ones..... Comment: Yeah this is one of the better EWAF...better sound quality and not a bad mix with Chicargo......have purchased another EWAF dvd and this one tops my 1st choice.......
Good purchase.....Eps.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Concert for those that remember! Comment: Just what we need, another bunch of aging rockers from the 60's and 70's trying to cash in on the nostalgia boom. Well, that's what it seems on the surface. Delve a little deeper and spend some time with this Blu-ray DVD and you'll discover a musical excellence that transcends time and generational change. Both groups have an infusion of youth (not surprising as some of the original members have gone to that great concert in the sky) but maintain the original sound albiet with much greater fidelity than was originally possible with 70's audio technology.
There are two reasons to buy this Blu-ray DVD, firstly the picture and sound quality are almost reference level (I own a HiFi store and use it for demo and system set ups), secondly the musical performance is just brilliant with band members of both groups interchanging and singing each others songs. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that there are some lulls in the performance although judicious use of the remote can soon dispatch them.
All in all this is a disk that anyone with a musical bent and good audio/video system should consider adding to their collection. Regardless of musical taste, you won't be disappointed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire: Live at the Greek Comment: Energetic performances and superb pacing by Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire, enhanced by first rate Blu-Ray sound and picture add up to one of the greatest home video concerts ever made!
An absolute must for your collection! You'll feel like your sitting right in the audience in the Greek Theater on a warm summer evening. Let me correct that. You'll be up on your feet like everybody else in the audience!
