Customer Rating: Summary: Make watching this a part of your holiday tradition! Comment: I first watched this version of a Christmas Carol when it came out on NBC, and was entranced by the music and the acting and dancing.
This musical has a different flavour from Albert Finney's classic, but the cast truly seems to have fun with this and some of the songs will bring tears to your eyes. A nice balance of the fun and the poignant. Both are worth having in your collection.
Customer Rating: Summary: A masterpiece Comment: In 2003, I saw the Madison Square Garden version of "A Christmas Carol," starring the incomparable Jim Dale. In 2004, I was prepared to grumble that the TV version wasn't anywhere as good. Apples to oranges; you can't compare live theater to film. This version is also incomparable. I watched it last night for the sixth time in four years. The movie has it all: performance of a lifetime by Kelsey Grammer, beautiful LOOK to the film, and that gorgeous score. Every time I watch it I'm struck by its beauty, and don't mind admitting that there are moments that bring me to tears. And at the end of the movie I look forward to watching it again. Kudos to all involved; you gave a lovely Christmas gift to the world. Thank you!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great for the family. Comment: I first watched this film on television. I remember sitting all by myself wishing I had someone to share this wonderful movie with. There is a delightful duet in the movie, "a place called home," that reminds me of some of Rodgers and Ham. classic lyrics. It is such a warm song. Now that I am married, we watch this movie every Christmas, and that song always seems to warm my heart. This is a movie that's great for the family. It should be a part of every Christmas lover's library. It is great for couples to watch together: it was enjoyable to watch as a single, amazing to watch as a couple, and one day, I hope to watch it with my children.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful Movie Comment: I saw this movie originally on NBC and loved it! My kids were upset that they couldn't watch it (it was a school night). I wasn't sure I wanted to watch it, but I'm so glad I did. Kelsey Grammer as Scrooge was great as was Jessie Owens as the Ghost of Christmas Present (I had no idea he could sing and dance!). I'm greatly looking forward to sharing this movie with my children this Christmas. A really wonderful movie.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bah Humbug! Comment: Just horrible when placed beside any of its predecessors. I pride myself in owning all the various incarnations of A Christmas Carol, even the cartton versiobs, but this ill-conceived, trivial and dilute version will not be joining that esteemed group!
God help us, everyone!
