Summary: EZ To Use Limited Features Low Cost Small Office Solution
Comment: We have been using this system in a seven person design firm for about two years now.

It works well for us but we realize we made a cost based decision compared to other business phone systems that are available. However for under $1,000 or the cost of the base unit plus satellite phones it is a good deal compared to spending $3,000 and up for a telephone system. Plus it is a cordless system so you only need to attach the base unit to an actual telephone jack and you can put the other phones anywhere there is an electrical outlet - thus saving money we would have spent having additional phone jacks installed.

Some of the pros are price, and the cordless phones are very convenient and easy to use and we use the speakerphone a lot which is simple to actuate and the sound quality is good. The multi-line calls are easy to manage once you get used to the system and putting people on hold is simple.

Negatives are the beeping sound when another call comes in on another line and you're talking to someone (at which point you can no longer hear them for a second or two); putting people into our voice mail system is clunky (we use AT&T) as we have to hit flash, dial AT&T's #, then hit flash again and wait until the caller is done before hanging up.

The Panasonic unit's built-in messaging and voice mail system were un-workable for us because of unnacceptable sound quality - the message people heard when calling in sounded grainy and muddy. The phone's built-in messaging system had a confusing menu system and we could not figure out how to set up individual mail boxes and have staff sort through them easily, so we abandoned these features.

This is probably the worst feature of the phone for us, but then we do not depend on voice mails and the telephone as much as other firms might (emails are our most critical communicating medium). However we put up with the inconvenience given the price and that we love the cordless handsets.

We do not roam far from the base units and find the cordless range to be as good as we need it for and we have walked to the parking lot or across the street with no loss of sound quality.

Another negative is sometimes sound level for callers who often have to ask my staff to speak up, but this only happens occasionally.

We have been happy with the system and it kept costs down when we were starting the office; however when we get more money saved up we are moving up to a standard $3,000+ telephone system.

In summation we would buy the Panasonic system again given the circumstances and recommend it for small offices who want to keep start-up costs low. We have an open office and we often run around carrying our cordless phones to different areas to look at things while talking; if you have this kind of creative environment this phone is a good choice. However some of the built-in features may be inadequate as mentioned above, but for us they are outweighed because of the benefits of cost, convenience and flexibility.

Summary: Full office phone system for $400
Comment: Had a fire in my office and had to move to a temporary facility.Since a phone system handling 4 lines would run $5000 w/installation I needed a cheaper alternative that I could install myself without wired extensions. We now have a base and 5 phones and this works as well as my custom installed unit in the original office.Messages, call transfers etc are all seamless. My only complaint is the volume on the portables is not quite loud enough. For the secretaries in the busy areas the head sets help this. You can't beat this unit if you are starting a business.

Summary: Quite Good except Spanish and volume
Comment: Have had unit for more than a year. Mainly for 2 remotes for picking up when not in home office and calling voice mail from cell for messages.

As others say, would like listening volume to be higher but have had no complaints on outgoing.

One of my remote units seems to be deaf after one-year. All functions work, battery shows full charge but no sound can be heard - no mute isn't on. UPDATE: After reading so many reviews on how customer service was so useless and reading manual and all the FAQ's on the Panasonic site with nothing related to my "deaf" unit, I ordered another from AMAZON. BUT just then thinking to give it a chance just before Panasonic Customer Service closed I called. Helpful person with good English had me take out the battery, wait 1 minute to reset the unit. Vola! I can hear again.

Went back to cancel order on Amazon like 30 minutes after placed and was too late already being prepared and have to get it and return it. Can't blame Amazon for being so fast!

I hate the voice mail retrieval asking me if want English or Spanish. I live in the U.S. not Mexico. I don't know a word of Spanish. It is annoying that question can not be turned off to avoid the extra selection step. The U.S. language is ENGLISH! So why do I have to put up with the needless step?

Summary: it is a good solution for a small business
Comment: This is my second 4-Line Expandable Cordless Phone System of Panasonic. This one is a bit different from the TG4000B I had. It has a better and clearer sound. It has more features if you have the time to read the thick booklet you can find many more. It is a plug and speak system that is delivering what you basically want: a clever home-small office telephone system without all the bother of wiring every room or station. It is a Panasonic product which means you should not have any issues with quality. don't hesitate.

Summary: Pretty good phone
Comment: I've been working with this phone system for several months now, and I like it very much. We have a smaller office-based business with only two lines and one remote handset, but for what we paid, its a great phone.

It looks like most of the negative comments are from customers familiar with the previous 4-line Panasonic phones. I guess if you're used to them, this one has some continuity problems. I'm sorry about that, but for a first time user, the phone is very good.

We don't use the pager feature, or the automated attendant. I have recorded our own music, and discovered its very important your music has virtually no bass at all. (That's why so many voice mail systems have light concerto violin music, due to the lack of bass.) If there's any bass, it will distort badly. (Not Panasonic's problem, but a limitation of the phone line audio dynamics.)

The voice mail system works well, but it plays exclusively from the speaker phone on the base unit, even if you have a headset plugged in. That's not so great if you're wanting to preserve privacy and anonymity. In fact, depending on your circumstances, it might make this phone completely unacceptable because of this. Why Panasonic didn't modify this feature, I don't know. Major oversight, if you ask me.

However, the unit does have a headset for the base, and a headset can be plugged into any of the handsets. This is almost unheard of for this kind of phone. Its really excellent, and the call quality is outstanding using a good quality headset. (I use an older ATT model, with adjustable volume, and it works great.) I also have a wireless GN Netcom headset that isn't as loud, and customers don't hear me as well on that one.

The menu system is fairly easy to navigate. There are a bunch of features packed into this phone, and I've spent a lot of time with the manual to make sure I have very clear understanding on how the system works. So often, frustration develops when you assume you understand how something works, only to find out it has a different operation than you're used to.

The intercom/transfer pad is a bit confusing, (case in point.) I thought it was a quick dial pad, when its not. Its an intercom/transfer system... just like it says. (Duh.) So, all the quick dial names are currently whited out.

Its a fairly complete phone. It may not have all the features you're looking for, and might be very frustrating if you're used to an older Panasonic model, but for the average small office, its great, and highly professional. (We got ours as a demo unit for half price, so that's also a big part of our satisfaction.)
